NLA confirms All Organic Laws to be ready by Roadmap’s Deadline

Date: 11 October 2017; Type: Legal News; Source: National News Bureau of Thailand

BANGKOK, Oct 11 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly has confirmed that the drafting of all organic laws will be completed before the deadline set in the national reform roadmap.

First Vice President of the NLA Surachai Liengboonlertchai said on Wednesday that the legislature is determined to enact all organic laws under the new Constitution by June 2018 when Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha plans to announce the official date of the general election.

Mr. Surachai stated that this deadline is in accordance with the time line set in the national reform roadmap although it may shift slightly.

Regarding concerns about the deadline to start the process to hold an election within 150 days after the law on political parties is brought into effect, Mr. Surachai said that all parties and the Election Commission shouldn't worry as there were previous cases, in which the interpretation of this provision was not literal.
