The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) deliberated the draft welfare bill, with Deputy Finance Minister Wisudhi Srisuphan presenting its important clauses. He explained that the government wishes to provide benefits to low-income citizens, in order to reduce economic and social inequality, leading to fair income distribution and better quality of life.
The bill applies to registered low-income citizens and state welfare cardholders. It provides guidelines for cooperation between the state, the private sector, and civil society in providing basic necessities to elevate quality of life and effectively manage state welfare according to the program’s objectives.
The NLA approved the bill in principle, as it gives clarity to previously stated programs.
