"It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Manila be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies," stated Proclamation No. 731 signed by Executive Salvador Medialdea on June 4 and released to the media on Thursday.
The City of Manila was established on June 24, 1571 by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the first governor-general of the Philippines under the Spanish colonial rule.
Manila was then declared the capital city of Spain in the Western Pacific Ocean.
The city was also given the title "Distinguished and Ever Loyal City" of Spain by King Philip II.
Manila was established as the Philippines’ capital city on June 24, 1976 by a presidential order.
