Twenty-nine employees were dismissed, 9 demoted, 12 suspended and 49 were warned, the Deputy Minister said.
Some reports were scrutinised by the tribunal that said roads were destroyed due to carelessness of engineers or substandard materials or misuse.
“The engineering department takes responsibility for the construction sector. Using qualified materials is No. 1, as is preventing the misuse of state funds. We are now carrying out our mission or giving first priority to these two goals,” he said.
After the new government took office, although the road construction sector developed, there are still flaws in the quality of concrete roads in Nay Pyi Taw, including the Yangon-Mandalay highway made by the former government. The ministry is looking for ways to improve its efficiency.
