Chief Justice to release Malaysian Judgments Portal today

Date: 16 April 2018; Type: Legal News; Source: Asean LIP Reporter

Chief Justice Tun Raus Sharif will release the beta version of the Malaysian Judgments Portal (“the Portal”) on Monday, 16 April at an event hosted by the University of Malaya at their Faculty of Law. The Portal, proposed as the official repository of Malaysian judgments and rulings, aims to develop a centralised and consistent approach towards aggregating and publishing Malaysian judgments. The Portal, a definitive step towards promoting transparency, access to justice and Rule of Law in Malaysia, will carry neutral citations for Malaysian judgments for the first time. The event will also feature the official release of Asean Legal Information Portal (Asean LIP) in Malaysia.

It is a joint initiative of the Malaysian Judiciary, Asean Legal Information Centre (the Centre) and the Malaysian Law Deans Council.

The event will also feature the official release of Asean Legal Information Portal (Asean LIP) in Malaysia.

Asean LIP, the only-of-its-kind initiative in the Region, aggregates latest Asean legal developments. It is promoted by Asean Legal Information Centre in partnership with some of the leading law schools in the Region and is supported by several key stakeholders of the Asean legal community. Asean LIP is a member of the worldwide Free Access to Law Movement (FALM).

“The scheduled releases of these portals reflect the determination of the Centre to carry out its mission of facilitating free, easy and meaningful access to Asean legal materials in a time-bound manner. The portals, we believe, will make a major impact in the way legal information is disseminated in Malaysia, Asean and even beyond”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Johan S Sabaruddin, the chairman of the Centre and the dean of the UM Faculty of Law.
