Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini handed down the sentence on Mohamad Zulfikar Nazriq Mohd Zahir, 21, who pleaded guilty to all three charges.
He was sentenced to four years jail and three strokes of the cane on each charge, with the jail sentences to be served consecutively.
Mohamad Zulfikar Nazriq, together with Muhammad Asmuhairyl Abas, 19, and another person still at large, were charged with robbing a woman of her i-Phone 6 Plus at about 7.15 am in front of a supermarket here last Sept 10.
They were also jointly charged with robbing another woman of her gold bangle, two gold rings, a gold necklace, car key, identity card and bank card, as well as a portable charger at a laundry shop at Puteri Jaya here at 7 am the following day (Sept 11).
After robbing the woman at the laundry shop, or about 15 minutes later, Mohamad Zulfikar Nazriq and Muhammad Asmuhairyl, together with the third person still at large, then armed with a machete, robbed a 24-hour convenience store at Jalan Kelab Cinta Sayang here of RM1,500 and also a handphone charger belonging to a man.
Muhammad Asmuhairyl pleaded not guilty to all the charges and the court set Oct 25 for case management.
Earlier, lawyer Sobini Kobu, representing Mohamad Zulfikar Nazriq, during mitigation, said his client was only an assistant cook and it was his first offence and his guilty plea had saved the court’s time and cost.
