Osman, when announced the exemption, said the state’s strong financial position believed to be able to accommodate the move and would not adversely affect the revenues collected by the LAs in the state.
He said the exemption to be given to all types of hawkers’ licences including the night market, a day or morning market, both mobile and stationary hawkers as well as those traders at the Karat bazaars (flea markets).
“To mitigate the losses incurred by the LAs’ in term of revenue collection, the state government will channel assistance in the form of grants and development allocation to enable them to implement various projects and programmes.
“The exemption only covers the hawkers’ licence fees, however, the terms of the issuance of licence by the LAs are to be complied with,” he said this after launching the licence fees waiver for hawkers in Johor at Jalan Segget, here tonight.
“It should be noted that all hawkers are still required to apply and obtain licences from the LAs to do business for the purposes of monitoring and enforcing as well as compliance with licence conditions,” he said.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated issue, Osman reminded all state assemblymen to observe etiquette and rules during the ongoing state assembly proceedings particularly during the debate session beginning tomorrow until Aug 19.
All 56 assemblymen must adhere to the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar’s reminder when officiating the first term of first session of the 14th Johor State Legislative Assembly on Thursday, that stressed on the importance of acting with decorum during the sittings and not to turn it into a circus, he said.
